How to make Steam in Infinite Craft

Combine Fire + Water to make Steam. Both ingredients are starting elements. Put Water on the canvas, then drag Fire onto that Water.

Fire + Water → Steam

Tested in the original game Checked and published October 16, 2026.

The starting-element route

  1. Open the original Infinite Craft game and find Water and Fire in the sidebar.
  2. Drag Water to an empty area of the canvas.
  3. Drag Fire from the sidebar directly onto the Water tile. Read the completed output label: Steam.

You do not need to craft a tool or an intermediate ingredient for this route. The recipe above documents the exact input pair we combined; it is not a list of every possible way to obtain Steam.

Our result after dragging Fire onto Water: Steam. Captured October 16, 2026.

Our browser test: Steam versus Smoke

We made two separate combinations in the same browser session. First, we placed Water on an unused part of the canvas and dropped Fire onto it. The finished tile read Steam, and Steam was added to the sidebar. An Ocean tile from an earlier experiment remained elsewhere on the canvas; it was not an input to this recipe.

For the comparison, we left Steam alone. We dragged a fresh Fire from the sidebar to a different area, then dropped Wind onto that Fire. That second tile became Smoke. The Steam tile was still visible separately, so we could compare both completed labels on the same screen.

Two observed input pairs

Fire + Water → Steam
Wind + Fire → Smoke

In this session, the little icons beside Steam and Smoke looked similar. The words were the useful distinction: one tile read Steam and the other read Smoke. If your goal is Steam, check the output name instead of relying on a cloud-shaped icon.

The comparison also gives a concrete check when a recipe seems to have gone wrong. Our Smoke came from using Wind with Fire, while Steam came from using Water with Fire. Before retrying, read the names of both ingredients. A different input pair is a different experiment, even if the output icons resemble each other.

We did not drag Wind onto the Steam tile for this comparison. We used a separate Fire tile so that the second result would show the effect of substituting Wind for Water without changing the first result. Our screenshots document these two combinations only; they do not establish what every other pair involving Steam or Smoke will produce.

Steam recipe questions

Can I make Steam using only starting elements?

Yes. Our tested route used Fire and Water directly from the sidebar. No earlier recipe was needed.

Is Smoke the same as Steam?

No: our session showed separate labels and separate sidebar entries. Fire with Water produced Steam; Wind with Fire produced Smoke. This page is about the Steam element in the game.

What if my result is different?

Check that the input tiles are labeled Fire and Water. If that exact pair gives a different result, send the input labels, output label, and a screenshot to contact@craftandquest.com. We have not verified your different result and will not suggest an untested replacement.

Our Life guide uses Steam later in a longer route. Follow that page's complete ingredient sequence rather than assuming Steam alone creates Life. For an overview, open Infinite Craft recipes in order.
