How to open the Witch’s Hut in Stardew Valley
On this page
Finish the Community Center or Joja development projects, enter the Railroad to start Dark Talisman, then ask Krobus to open the Mutant Bug Lair. The talisman opens the swamp route. Give its Henchman Void Mayonnaise to reach the hut and recover the Wizard’s Magic Ink.

Trigger the Wizard’s request at the Railroad
This is a post-Community Center or post-Joja-development quest. Repairing only the bus or completing a single room is not enough. Once that main development route is finished, enter the Railroad area north of the Mountain and watch the Wizard’s scene. Check the journal for Dark Talisman before looking for the new passage.

You will also need sewer access. The Rusty Key is the museum reward after 60 artifact or mineral donations. If you cannot enter the Sewers at all, that is the missing prerequisite; upgrading a pickaxe will not open Krobus’s quest passage.
Ask Krobus, then take the talisman from the chest
Talk to Krobus with the quest active. He opens the entrance to the Mutant Bug Lair in the northwest of the Sewers. Bring food and a weapon before going through: the bugs are hostile, and the quest object is inside rather than at Krobus’s shop.

Collect the Dark Talisman from its chest. Return to the Railroad, use it on the artifact blocking the cave, then step onto the teleportation rune inside. That takes you into the Witch’s Swamp and the next stage, Goblin Problem.
The Henchman wants Void Mayonnaise
The guard on the path is moved by giving him Void Mayonnaise. Ordinary Mayonnaise, a Void Egg and a Strange Bun are different items. Make the correct jar by putting a Void Egg into a Mayonnaise Machine; the documented processing time is three in-game hours.

You can also fish a jar out of the swamp while the Henchman is still guarding the path and you have none in your inventory. In 1.6 the chance is 5%, reduced from the old 25%. It is a fallback if you arrive without mayonnaise, not a guaranteed first catch or a reliable way to fill a chest with jars.
Hold the jar and give it to the Henchman. Keep a fishing attempt separate from the gift interaction: eating the mayonnaise yourself does not bribe him.
Pick up the purple bottle and return it
Inside the hut, find the Magic Ink on the table. It is the purple bottle. You do not have to make an offering at any shrine to retrieve it.

Take the ink back to the Wizard to unlock his magical building services. The red floor rune provides a route into his basement. Before four hearts with the Wizard, that shortcut should not be treated as unrestricted two-way travel; the paired runes have a friendship restriction.
Know what the shrines do before offering anything
The Dark Shrine of Memory takes 30,000g to wipe an ex-spouse’s memory of the relationship. The Dark Shrine of Selfishness takes a Prismatic Shard and permanently removes your children by turning them into doves. Neither action is needed for this quest.
The Dark Shrine of Night Terrors takes a Strange Bun to toggle nighttime monsters on the farm. Another bun toggles the effect back. If you only came for the buildings and the shortcut, collect the ink and leave the shrines alone.
