Use Lapis Fictus on the kitchen fusebox, then use Melanosis in the mercury puddle to make Virdis. The hotel route also needs the Lead Key dropped by the TV after the bed-statue and wall-hole interactions. Aurifer is awarded after using Virdis at the locked hotel door.

Start with Lapis Fictus, not the early study-door mixture

This route begins after the Desiderium apartment puzzles have given you the Lapis Fictus Knife. If you are still carrying a Glass Box, loose figures or a vase mixture, finish the apartment’s statue sequence first.

Leave the apartment for the stairs, enter the kitchen through the bathroom route and use Lapis Fictus on the fusebox. Check the inventory for Melanosis Knife before moving on. The fusebox transforms the knife; it is not a request to hit it with an unrelated weapon.

Prepare for the elevator-shaft chase

Return to the apartment hallway, interact with the elevator door and climb down the ladder. A cutscene at the bottom leads into a Relicta chase. The documented escape is to sprint left along the hallway, then enter the door on the right. Inside, continue all the way right and take the next door.

Because the chase starts immediately after the scene, know that first direction before descending. Trying to solve the later mercury interaction while still being pursued misses the purpose of the first right-hand doorway: reach the sheltered route first.

Mercury changes Melanosis into Virdis

In the room reached beyond the chase doors, use the Melanosis Knife on the mercury puddle on the ground. You receive the Virdis Knife, using the spelling in the documented item route.

Next, interact with the statues sitting on the bed. Then inspect the hole in the corner wall beneath the health potion. That interaction makes the television drop the Lead Key. Pick it up before interacting with the hole again to leave the area.

If the next symbol door will not open, check for the Key rather than trying the newly transformed knife on every door. The Virdis Knife and Lead Key perform different jobs in the final stretch.

Take the Lead Key back to the Studio Lobby

  1. After leaving through the wall hole, climb the stairs to the apartment building’s ground floor.
  2. Enter the stairway and return to the Floor 2 apartment hallway.
  3. Go all the way left into the Studio Lobby.
  4. Use the Lead Key on the door with the symbol.
  5. Continue north through the doors until you reach the locked Hotel door.
  6. Use the Virdis Knife there. After the cutscene, you receive Aurifer.

Stop and save before testing Aurifer

Aurifer can kill Relicta, but the first such kill chooses the ordinary bad-ending route. If you want both endings, preserve a save before attacking a ghost. For the other branch, run past every Relicta without killing one.

For the full approach to Séptimo Arte and the new-run secret route, continue with the four-ending guide. Heart of Lead requires every ghost, including those on the building’s floors; it is more demanding than the single kill needed to select Ending 2.
