Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2
Getting boxed in by Nurgle enemies? Watch the floor as well as the guns
On this page
Keep a route out before committing to a ranged target. Poxwalkers can rise from the ground, while Plague Marines and Blightlord Terminators add attacks that make standing in one useful firing spot a bad long-term plan.
Check the ground before a long burst
Take a brief look at the space around your feet and the direction you intend to move. Then attack. Recheck after moving, because a previously empty lane can become a problem once more enemies join the fight.
This matters especially when aiming at a distant Plague Marine. Concentrating on the gunner can let nearby Poxwalkers close the gap. If you already have enemies within melee range, create space before settling back into the ranged fight.

Use a repeatable sequence when the room gets crowded
- Identify an open lane, rather than retreating toward the nearest wall.
- Deal with the enemy immediately blocking that lane.
- Move into the cleared space and turn back to the group.
- Attack the ranged threat when you can do so without abandoning the next escape.
The sequence is deliberately based on position rather than a fixed weapon order. Your available weapons and ammunition can change. Do not reserve every useful shot for a distant elite if the small enemy in your way is what prevents you leaving a dangerous spot.

Blightlords add another reason to move
The developer describes both ranged and melee threats for Blightlord Terminators, including ground eruptions. Watch what the enemy is doing as well as how close it is. A comfortable firing distance does not mean the floor beneath you will remain safe.
The developer describes regenerating Poxwalker swarms. Keep checking your escape route as the fight develops; clearing a lane once does not mean you can ignore it for the rest of the encounter.
If Nurgle Nightmare is running unusually badly
The October 20 update fixes a major performance issue in that chapter. Install that update before treating the slowdown as evidence that your whole PC setup is wrong. If the problem remains, record your game version, hardware, settings and the location for the official bug report. This is separate from the combat advice above; lower frame rate does not explain away every hit.
For another faction with fast close-range pressure, see Bloodcrushers and Khorne’s melee enemies.
