Drow Ranger spacing: preserve room to use your ranged tools
On this page
Marksmanship becomes disabled when an enemy hero is sufficiently close. Gust pushes and silences enemies; the current Multishot description allows slow movement and item use during it.

Practise the decision step by step
- Read the current proximity condition in your tooltip instead of relying on a remembered distance.
- Keep a route behind or beside you before committing to sustained attacks.
- Use Gust to address an approaching threat while checking whether another enemy is entering from elsewhere.
- During Multishot, observe which movement and item actions your current client permits rather than following an outdated instruction to remain completely motionless.
The mistake to look for
Long attack range is not proof of safety once someone reaches you. Your next useful movement can matter more than one extra attack from a trapped position.
A controlled demo exercise
In demo mode, move an enemy hero closer and farther away while watching the passive’s state. Then practise Gust and a controlled retreat before resuming damage.
Keep the setup consistent between attempts: same hero state, same target arrangement and the same abilities available. Change one decision, observe the outcome, then repeat. If an item, upgrade or new patch changes the ability, read that effect before comparing the attempts.
Use this in a real match
Before acting, name the immediate objective: control a target, protect an ally, maintain position or create a damage opportunity. After the fight, review whether your chosen action produced that objective. The outcome of the match alone does not tell you which part of the sequence worked.
This page is a focused mechanics lesson. It does not supply a universal item build, talent order, exact timing script or ranked win-rate claim. Team composition, items and current balance changes can alter the best choice.
