Lich Chain Frost: look for a useful bounce network
On this page
Chain Frost passes between nearby enemy units and increases damage on successive bounces. The current description says it can linger when a bounce is unavailable and resume if targets become available.
Follow the practice steps ↓Mechanics checked October 17, 2026 against Valve’s hero data · Editorial practice advice · Not match-tested
Practise the decision step by step
- Inspect nearby enemy units rather than judging the cast only by the first target.
- Choose a moment when enemies are likely to remain close enough to support follow-up bounces.
- Use your other controls and your team’s positioning to influence the formation without assuming the ultimate will hold everyone itself.
- After a weak result, check target spacing before deciding that the starting target was wrong.
The mistake to look for
An isolated target can provide a very different outcome from a compact formation. A schematic is not proof of the current bounce radius or number of jumps.
A controlled demo exercise
Place two demo targets close together and then farther apart. Compare the chain’s behaviour in your current client. Repeat with a new target entering to inspect the documented lingering behaviour.
Keep the setup consistent between attempts: same hero state, same target arrangement and the same abilities available. Change one decision, observe the outcome, then repeat. If an item, upgrade or new patch changes the ability, read that effect before comparing the attempts.
Use this in a real match
Before acting, name the immediate objective: control a target, protect an ally, maintain position or create a damage opportunity. After the fight, review whether your chosen action produced that objective. The outcome of the match alone does not tell you which part of the sequence worked.
This page is a focused mechanics lesson. It does not supply a universal item build, talent order, exact timing script or ranked win-rate claim. Team composition, items and current balance changes can alter the best choice.
