Lion Hex and Earth Spike: avoid wasting overlapping control

Earth Spike travels along a line and stuns units it hits. Hex transforms a chosen enemy and disables its special abilities. They solve different targeting problems.

Practise the decision step by step

  1. Decide whether the immediate goal is reliable control on one target or a line that can hit several units.
  2. Use the targeted disable when you need to hold the chosen enemy, then aim the line with that position in mind.
  3. Watch the first disable’s remaining effect before committing the next: simultaneous casts can spend two resources on the same moment.
  4. Keep an escape route instead of moving closer merely to start Mana Drain, which is itself channeled.

The mistake to look for

Having two disables does not guarantee double the useful control if most of their durations overlap. The reverse mistake is waiting so long that the target escapes between them.

A controlled demo exercise

In demo mode, use each spell alone and inspect the target state. Then practise a sequence with a deliberate handover. Repeat with targets arranged in a line to see when Earth Spike offers extra value.

Keep the setup consistent between attempts: same hero state, same target arrangement and the same abilities available. Change one decision, observe the outcome, then repeat. If an item, upgrade or new patch changes the ability, read that effect before comparing the attempts.

Use this in a real match

Before acting, name the immediate objective: control a target, protect an ally, maintain position or create a damage opportunity. After the fight, review whether your chosen action produced that objective. The outcome of the match alone does not tell you which part of the sequence worked.

This page is a focused mechanics lesson. It does not supply a universal item build, talent order, exact timing script or ranked win-rate claim. Team composition, items and current balance changes can alter the best choice.
