Meat Hook catches the first unit it encounters and brings that unit toward Pudge. Rot also damages Pudge himself; Dismember is channeled.

Practise the decision step by step

  1. Before aiming at a hero, inspect the whole line for units that can be hit first.
  2. Change your angle or wait for the line to clear rather than repeating the same blocked cast.
  3. Plan where the caught unit will arrive relative to your team and nearby threats.
  4. After connecting, manage Rot and any channel deliberately instead of treating the hook as a guaranteed solo kill.

The mistake to look for

A hook that hits the wrong unit is often a line-selection mistake rather than a reaction-speed problem. Also watch your own health while using Rot.

A controlled demo exercise

Place a target behind another unit in demo mode. Try the direct line, then move sideways and repeat. Observe which unit is first in the path; do not measure an unofficial hook width from this diagram.

Keep the setup consistent between attempts: same hero state, same target arrangement and the same abilities available. Change one decision, observe the outcome, then repeat. If an item, upgrade or new patch changes the ability, read that effect before comparing the attempts.

Use this in a real match

Before acting, name the immediate objective: control a target, protect an ally, maintain position or create a damage opportunity. After the fight, review whether your chosen action produced that objective. The outcome of the match alone does not tell you which part of the sequence worked.

This page is a focused mechanics lesson. It does not supply a universal item build, talent order, exact timing script or ranked win-rate claim. Team composition, items and current balance changes can alter the best choice.
