Under the default 1.0 progression rule, pushing back the Shroud with Flame Altars requires Flame level 11. World settings can lower that required level; placing an early altar alone does not establish that the feature is unlocked.

Reviewed October 17, 2026 · 1.0 release and Hotfix 1.0.0.2 source review

Separate character strength, an altar’s building area and the relevant world progression condition. They are not interchangeable explanations for why fog remains. Before spending materials on another placement, find out whether the world meets the feature’s gate.

What to do, in order

  1. Confirm that you are checking the world’s Flame progression rather than only the character’s level or the size of an individual building area.
  2. For a default-rules playthrough, check whether Flame level 11 has been reached. If not, the missing progression gate is the first explanation to resolve.
  3. For a customized world, read the configured requirement. Decide whether changing it fits the group’s agreed rules before applying a change.
  4. Compare the affected area before and after an eligible altar action. Record the world setting and progression state together if the effect remains unclear.

Match the situation to the right check

A video shows it working much earlier

Ask whether that world lowered the threshold. A customized demonstration is not evidence of the default requirement.

Adding more ordinary time in the Shroud did not clear it

Extending a visit and pushing back the Shroud are different goals. Solve the documented feature gate rather than assuming one substitutes for the other.

Conditions and limits

The release notes establish the gate and customization option, not a universal radius or a promise that every hazardous area becomes safe.

The documented behavior comes from Keen Games’ Release trailer, changelog... everything you need to wait for tomorrow!. Hotfix 1.0.0.2 provides the later migration, world-settings and localization corrections discussed where relevant. The ordering and diagnostic comparisons are independent editorial guidance.
