Enshrouded Automatic Enemy Counts: Nearby Party vs Distant Players
On this page
The 1.0 Automatic encounter setting scales enemy numbers with the party actively playing nearby. Players elsewhere in Embervale are not counted as part of that local party.
Reviewed October 17, 2026 · 1.0 release and Hotfix 1.0.0.2 source review
Separate total connected players from the group participating near an encounter. Also separate enemy count from damage and health. An observation about more enemies cannot establish that every enemy statistic changed.

What to do, in order
- Check that the world uses Automatic for the setting controlling encounter enemy numbers. A custom fixed choice is a different test.
- Record which players are actually together near the encounter, rather than just the server’s connection total.
- Keep the encounter and setting comparable when checking a party-size change. Different locations and enemy groups can otherwise muddy the result.
- If the result seems wrong, report the setting, nearby participants, distant participants and the encounter location. Do not translate a count observation into an invented health or damage multiplier.
Match the situation to the right check
Several friends are online but far away
Their connection alone is not the local-party definition described by the developer.
The encounter feels harder without more enemies
Difficulty can involve other variables. This feature’s description specifically concerns enemy numbers, not a complete difficulty formula.
Conditions and limits
The announcement does not publish a numerical count curve for every party size. The guide therefore explains scope and a comparison method rather than manufacturing a scaling table.
Sources and version notes
The documented behavior comes from Keen Games’ Release trailer, changelog... everything you need to wait for tomorrow!. Hotfix 1.0.0.2 provides the later migration, world-settings and localization corrections discussed where relevant. The ordering and diagnostic comparisons are independent editorial guidance. We do not claim a personal playtest, guaranteed recovery or a measured combat result. Check later patch notes if your build differs.
