Rust Industrial Crafter Not Making the Right Item: Blueprint Order and Output Checks
On this page
Check workbench compatibility, the installed blueprints, available ingredients and output space. In the documented four-slot design, the crafter scans blueprints from left to right and chooses the first recipe it can make. A later recipe can therefore be waiting behind an eligible earlier one.

Build the smallest useful test first
- Record the intended recipe and confirm it is supported by the attached workbench. A powered crafter does not remove recipe-tier requirements.
- Temporarily leave only the target blueprint installed. Supply the displayed ingredients and make room for the result.
- If the target works alone, restore the other blueprints one at a time and inspect the order.
- Separate ingredient supply from finished-item removal. Confirm the receiving storage still has appropriate room.
A controlled example
Suppose a first-slot recipe remains craftable while the item you want is in a later slot. Remove or temporarily deprioritize the earlier blueprint for a controlled test. If the desired item then appears, you have isolated recipe selection instead of proving a problem with power or piping.
Make the system serve the actual goal
A production line needs an explicit priority policy. Emergency supplies should not sit behind an indefinitely craftable low-priority recipe unless that behavior is intentional. Decide which resource should be protected and which output should accumulate before asking the crafter to manage several recipes unattended. The blueprint transport ports and the ordinary item ports also have different jobs.

Match the symptom to the next check
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| Correct ingredients, wrong product | Test blueprint priority with the other recipes removed. |
| Starts and then stops | Check output capacity and ingredient depletion separately. |
| Pipe network needs another adaptor | The crafter has built-in industrial ports; identify the port you actually need before adding hardware. |
Version and setup limits
Four blueprint slots and the left-to-right rule come from the March industrial revision. Pictures are historical device views, not proof of your recipe or server configuration.
Keep a note of the server and the one setting changed between observations. A modified server can differ from the default design; a historical demonstration is not a measurement of the installation in front of you. Restore the full line in stages after the isolated test works, checking the destination stock after each stage rather than assuming every new connection preserves the result.
