Valheim 1.0 increases mist-clearing range for Wisp Light, Wisp Torch and Mistwalker, and adds mist removal to all Mistlands weapons. Recheck an old setup before treating Mistwalker as the only weapon choice with this utility. Clearing the view and surviving combat remain separate jobs.

What to do first

1. Check that the advice matches 1.0. Older comparisons can omit the utility added to Mistlands weapons.
2. Choose a weapon you can support in combat, then inspect the visibility it provides on the intended route.
3. Compare applicable wisp tools at the same location. Do not assume portable and placed options provide identical coverage.
4. Check your approach and escape view before committing to a fight; a cleared view does not remove enemy pressure.

The equipment decision has changed

The official launch notes broaden mist-clearing weapon options while improving the named tools. An older guide can therefore overstate one utility’s exclusivity. This does not make all weapons equivalent: attack pattern, available resources and your skill still affect which one you can use effectively.

A route and an encounter have different needs

Check both the path you plan to travel and the place you expect to fight. A satisfactory view while standing still does not prove that you can navigate after being forced back. Inspect the escape direction before concentrating entirely on damage. Route preparation has value beyond finding the enemy.

Compare consistently

Use the same location, position and equipment context when comparing visibility choices. The launch note gives no exact clearing distance. A precise ring from an old map or a pre-update number would not establish the current radius. This guide therefore supplies a comparison method rather than an unsupported measurement.

Fix the remaining problem

If the route is visible but the encounter remains unsafe, return to combat preparation instead of adding visibility changes indefinitely. If navigation is still the problem, adjust the route and relevant tool before spending resources on damage alone. Identify the last failed step rather than expecting one item to solve the whole biome.
