Use Great Cleave to support farm, build a useful attack window with God's Strength and your defensive actives, connect with Blink or Storm Hammer, and activate Mask of Madness after the spells you need. Its self-silence prevents treating Warcry or another Hammer as an immediate follow-up.

Mechanics and item values reviewed October 17, 2026 against Valve’s English data. Purchase and talent branches below are editorial recommendations.

The build solves three different problems

ProblemCore answerWhat it does not replace
Turning farm into a carry timingGreat Cleave and a practical early farming itemA plan for entering fights once farmed.
Reaching the targetBlink access, Storm Hammer and available team controlProtection from enemy spells after arrival.
Actually attacking during God's StrengthA suitable BKB window and attack tempoA target that stays reachable; immunity-piercing effects still need separate respect.

This is a physical carry plan, not a requirement to buy every listed item in every match. If you already reach enemies but are disabled before attacking, another damage purchase leaves the main failure unsolved.

Buy in stages, with a real fork at each timing

  1. Lane: sustain and boots come before a fantasy final inventory. Power Treads is a useful starting option for attack speed and selectable attributes; do not treat attribute switching as a substitute for adequate mana.
  2. Farming branch: consider Mask of Madness when you can exploit its attack speed and lifesteal safely. Echo Sabre is an alternative early decision when its Strength, mana regeneration and double-attack slow better address the current problem. Both are not compulsory purchases.
  3. Access branch: choose Blink when the issue is getting into attack range. Enemy hero or Roshan damage disables its use for 3 seconds, so do not plan around blinking out immediately after taking a hit.
  4. Action-window branch: bring BKB forward if enemy spells repeatedly stop your damage window. Decide when to activate it before committing. Do not assume it answers every spell interaction.
  5. Damage branch: consider Daedalus after access and protection are functional. A critical strike upgrade cannot repair a fight in which you never land attacks.
  6. Sustain branch: consider Satanic when you can remain attacking and lifesteal is relevant. It is not an answer to being unable to hit anything; compare its opportunity cost with the access or protection you still lack.

Cast order: leave the self-silence until the spells are ready

Before the entry, check God's Strength, Warcry, Hammer and any required protection. Use the spells your catch needs before activating Mask of Madness. Blink and Hammer ordering depends on whether the target is already in cast range and how the catch is being made; there is no reason to force a Blink input when you already have a safe connection.

  1. 1Prepare damage, armor and the necessary protection
  2. 2Connect and cast the control you need
  3. 3Activate Mask of Madness for the chosen attack window

The Mask active lasts 6 seconds; God's Strength lasts 30 seconds in the reviewed data. Do not confuse the short self-silenced burst with the entire ultimate window. If the intended target becomes unreachable, the remaining ultimate duration still needs a decision rather than blindly continuing the same chase.

Warcry does not automatically cancel the Mask armor penalty

The Mask active reduces armor by 7. Warcry grants 5/8/11/14 armor by ability rank before talents. During their overlap, the change from these two active effects alone is:

Warcry rankWarcry minus Mask penaltyMeaning
15 − 7 = -2Relative armor change from these two effects, not total armor.
28 − 7 = +1Relative armor change from these two effects, not total armor.
311 − 7 = +4Relative armor change from these two effects, not total armor.
414 − 7 = +7Relative armor change from these two effects, not total armor.

At rank 1, using both still leaves armor lower than before those two effects. At rank 4, their overlap is positive. Neither result is your total armor or a direct physical-damage-reduction percentage. Base armor, other effects and the exact overlap timing remain separate.

Skill priorities and talent branches

Take access to Storm Hammer for control, then weight Great Cleave more heavily when the game is about accelerating through farm. If early fights require a stronger catch or extra Warcry protection, adapt those points to the actual lane and team needs. Level God's Strength at its normal ultimate opportunities; do not use a rigid skill screenshot to ignore a lane that needs a different tool.

Talent tierReviewed alternativesDecision
10God's Strength slow resistance / Warcry durationCompare staying connected through slows with extending the armor and movement support window.
15Great Cleave damage / God's Strength cooldownCleave emphasis versus more frequent access to the ultimate timing.
20Warcry armor / Storm Hammer cooldown and mana costPhysical protection versus more available catches and a lower Hammer resource burden.
25Storm Hammer stun duration / God's Strength damageA longer control window versus a stronger damage window you can already exploit.

The choice should answer a specific failure. Extra damage is valuable when attacks connect; control can be more useful when they do not. These are decision branches, not a win-rate ranking or a claim that every game should take the same side.

Reserve mana for the complete entrance

A sample sequence with level 1 God's Strength, level 1 Warcry, one Hammer, Mask of Madness and BKB costs 100 + 30 + 110 + 25 + 50 = 315 mana. With level 3 ultimate and level 4 Warcry, the same list costs 380 mana.

These are raw cast-cost sums before talents, mana-cost modifiers, regeneration or other actives. Blink adds no mana cost in the reviewed item data. Keep enough for what you actually intend to cast rather than checking only whether the ultimate icon is usable.

Do not multiply every damage item by God's Strength

Valve’s note bases the ultimate’s bonus on Sven’s base damage and primary attribute. Flat item damage is not simply all multiplied by the ultimate. For a stripped-down arithmetic illustration, a 100-point eligible base component with the reviewed level-3 190% bonus contributes 290 before other effects; a separate 50-point flat component would not become another 145 points just because of that bonus.

This illustrates the stated scaling rule, not Sven’s complete attack calculation or damage against an armored target. Innate effects, critical strikes, cleave, target defenses and other modifiers require their own treatment.
