Staff spend all day walking? Build a smaller work zone first
On this page
Use Management → Staff → Work Zones to group nearby animal homes and the facilities their workers need. Assign staff and check Tasks and rest access. Training helps efficiency, but cannot repair a disconnected route or remove a long walk.

Follow one delayed job first
Choose a symptom: late food, a repair queue or an animal waiting for transport. Select the relevant employee and inspect the current task. Keepers, mechanics and caretakers have different jobs; placing all three beside a hungry animal does not make all three feed it.

Trace the route between the job and its supporting facility. Note where the employee prepares food or rests. Improve that observed journey before adopting an arbitrary staff-to-animal ratio.
Create a compact service area
- Open Management → Staff → Work Zones and create a zone for nearby habitats, aquariums or exhibits.
- Add relevant local facilities, including a Staff Room and appropriate service buildings.
- Assign employees in this panel or through Employment in their Info Panel.
- Inspect Tasks. A cleaning-only keeper will not feed animals simply because their habitat is zoned.
- Observe the next job and rest trip. Shorten the route without leaving another area unattended.

Read the zone overlay correctly
| Colour | Meaning | Useful response |
|---|---|---|
| Green | In the selected zone | Confirm assigned workers cover its jobs |
| Orange | In another zone | Check you are editing the intended zone |
| Blue | In this zone and another | Review overlap; it is not itself an error |
| Red | Not assigned to a zone | Check coverage if every worker is zoned |
A missing facility is not always forbidden: Frontier says employees can seek a needed facility outside their zone when it is absent inside. That fallback can still create a long trip. Include a suitable nearby facility to make the route easier to manage.
Train after fixing access and workload

Employees start at one star and can reach five. Training costs are non-refundable; the upgrade occurs on the next visit to a Staff Room to rest. Workers expect higher pay after each training level. If the rating has not changed, inspect rest access and the pending upgrade first.
Judge success by the original job: a shorter trip, completed service and a workable rest cycle. For food-delivery failures, see the keeper checks; for unlocks, use the research guide.
