Researched the animal but still cannot buy its enrichment?

Species and Enrichment are separate research categories. Species research reveals care knowledge such as Thriving requirements and fertility benefits; Enrichment research unlocks more food and toy items. Read the missing item’s relevant topic instead of assuming species progress unlocks everything.

Choose research for the result you need

Open Research in the Browser. Read the topic’s rewards and prerequisites before assigning staff. A spare vet researching the first animal card may not unlock the object you need.

Assign a worker and a working facility

  1. Place a Research Centre from Facilities, with power and path access.
  2. Open the needed category and read its requirements, including whether the animal must be housed in the zoo.
  3. Select a suitable worker from Available Staff, then the topic.
  4. Track progress in Active Research, the Research menu or the employee’s Info Panel.
  5. Read the completion notification and check the actual unlock. A further available tier can begin automatically, so distinguish a finished tier from a finished topic.

Why progress can appear to stop

Researchers observe animals as well as working inside the centre. Care duties take priority, so a vet treating an injury is not necessarily ignoring research. Check the assigned worker’s job and usable facilities before hiring several more.

Some species need to be released and studied in Wildlife Reserves for full research. If the tier lists that condition, repeating observation in the zoo does not fulfil it. Follow the requirement shown for that topic.

You can pause research to reassign staff. Completed knowledge is shared across the current Hub, so inspect existing progress before treating another zoo as a fresh research tree.

Thriving goes beyond basic welfare

First fix food, access, space and other basic needs; then pursue the extra species conditions revealed by research. If a requirement calls for an unavailable item, check Enrichment rather than restarting Species research.

Success means the needed discovery or object becomes available and can be applied. For employees constantly travelling or doing other jobs, use the work-zone guide.
