Use Dust Sprites on Mines floors 41–79 for a repeatable combat route, a Charcoal Kiln for spare wood, or Clint for immediate supply. Compare the time and materials you can afford; there is no fixed coal-per-hour promise for a random mine run.

A repeatable mine session

  1. Prepare a weapon, food and empty inventory space before entering the frozen Mines section.
  2. Use unlocked elevator stops in the 41–79 range, inspect for Dust Sprites, and clear the groups you can reach safely.
  3. Move to another eligible floor when the room offers little value instead of breaking every rock solely in hope of coal.
  4. Count the coal actually collected and return before health or time becomes a problem.

Dust Sprites have a documented 50% coal drop chance. A room containing several sprites is therefore useful, but the enemies and drops vary. Do not budget a full crafting queue around an assumed guaranteed return from one trip.

Scale the combat route when the rewards are unlocked

The Adventurer’s Guild rewards 500 Dust Sprite kills with the Burglar’s Ring. Its extra loot rolls support repeated resource hunting, but that kill requirement makes it a progression reward, not starting equipment. The linked creator route uses advanced gear; your first sessions can begin without copying its entire loadout.

When the kiln is the sensible option

The Charcoal Kiln unlocks at Foraging level 2 in 1.6 and takes 20 Wood plus two Copper Bars to craft. Each cycle consumes 10 Wood for one Coal in 30 in-game minutes. Use an actual wood surplus, not the timber already reserved for a building.

For example, 200 spare Wood supports 20 cycles and 20 Coal. That is a conversion plan, not free coal: the wood, machine and loading effort all have another use.

Compare shop costs by year

Clint sells coal for 150g in Year 1 and 250g from Year 2 onward. Robin’s ordinary wood price changes from 10g to 50g. Buying ten Wood and burning it therefore costs 100g per Coal in Year 1 but 500g later, before the kiln’s cost. Direct coal becomes the cheaper of those two shop-funded routes after Year 1.

Before spending your whole stock, reserve coal for the bars or construction you need next. Then use the remainder on optional processing. If a smoker queue consumes the supply faster than you can replace it, prioritize worthwhile fish rather than adding more smokers.
