Getting Wild Honey? Check the flower at collection time
On this page
Keep an eligible, fully grown flower within the Bee House’s five-tile range and leave it unharvested until after collecting honey. The honey type is determined when you collect it, not when the ready icon first appears.

Start with a small, accessible honey block
- Choose a normal outdoor production season: spring, summer or fall in the valley.
- Plant an eligible flower and water it until mature.
- Place a few Bee Houses nearby, leaving a route to collect each one without clicking the flower.
- Let production complete, then collect honey while the bloom is still standing.
- Check the item’s name before expanding the same arrangement.
A single bloom can serve multiple hives and is not consumed by honey production. One suitable flower is therefore enough for a compact test; you do not need one flower for every Bee House.
Count range correctly
Use the diamond-shaped five-tile area, not an 11×11 square. From a hive, moving three tiles horizontally and two vertically stays within five; moving four horizontally and two vertically does not. Keep the test flower closer than the edge while learning the layout.
If multiple flower types are in range, the nearest takes priority. Do not scatter several species around a hive and assume it chooses the most expensive honey. Foraged Sweet Peas and Crocuses do not substitute for eligible planted flowers. Flowers in Garden Pots count from version 1.6.6 onward.
What to check when the honey remains wild
Was the flower fully grown? Was it still present when you collected? Was it the closest eligible bloom? Bee Houses do not produce indoors, including the Greenhouse, even if flowers are nearby. On Ginger Island, outdoor flower honey can be produced year-round.
Do not automatically send flower honey to a keg
In 1.6, fresh Mead has a base value of 300g, not the older 200g. Its value does not depend on which honey you used. Fairy Rose Honey is 680g before Artisan, so turning it into fresh Mead reduces that item’s sale value by 380g. With Artisan, 952g honey becomes 420g fresh Mead, a 532g reduction.
Wild Honey is a different comparison: 100g becomes 300g fresh Mead before profession effects, at the cost of keg time. Keep wild and flower honey separate so one processing rule does not downgrade the more valuable batch. These comparisons exclude cask ageing, which adds another resource and time decision.
