Mushroom Logs: more trees and the right trees do different jobs
On this page
Count wild, non-fruit trees in the 7×7 square centered on each log. Ten nearby trees ensure the maximum quantity of five mushrooms, but do not guarantee one mushroom species. Mature tree types influence the selection separately.

Build a counting test, not a whole forest at once
- Unlock the recipe at Foraging level 4 and craft a log with 10 Hardwood and 10 Moss.
- Mark three tiles outward from the log in each direction to identify its 7×7 area.
- Count eligible trees inside that area. Immature wild trees contribute to quantity; fruit trees do not.
- Check the mature tree mix separately when choosing which mushrooms to favor.
- Leave a way to reach the log, collect the product and observe several cycles before extending the design.
The normal production interval is four days, with rainy days advancing the cycle. Mushrooms are produced in all seasons. Do not expect every log to become ready on an identical calendar date if its weather or previous collection history differs.
Quantity is not a species guarantee
Nearby mature Oaks add weight toward Morels, Pines toward Chanterelles and Mystic Trees toward Purple Mushrooms. The selection also retains a basic mushroom distribution, so adding only one tree species does not force every harvest to be that species.
A sapling can improve the quantity count without supplying the mature-tree contribution to the species distribution. That explains why a newly planted area can change again as its trees mature. Compare the actual growth stages rather than only the number of seeds planted.
Plan growth and access together
Count influence around each log individually; a tree useful to one log can be outside the next log’s square. Closely packed logs can share tree influence, but tree growth and the collection path still need space. Start with an accessible test section and expand after you can identify which trees serve each log.
If quantity is low, recheck the square, tree category and the actual number present. If the mushroom type is disappointing, recheck mature species and remember that the result remains random. Adding another row of logs without checking their surrounding trees can simply multiply the weak setup.
