Valheim Fenris Armor: Hair, the Cultist Trophy and the Set Bonus
On this page
A first Fenris set needs 60 Fenris Hair, 12 Wolf Pelts, 20 Leather Scraps and one Cultist Trophy at a level-2 Workbench. The coat provides frost resistance; the three-piece set adds Fenris Blessing. A Fenring trophy is not the hood ingredient.
Standard, unmodded equipment and Hildir quest rules; normal portal restrictions noted where relevant.
Pack for the cave before farming the outfit
Use frost protection to reach the Mountain entrances before you own the coat. Bring a light source and keep an outside recovery point with spare food. Mark cleared caves on your map: procedural cave layouts and loot do not make one cave a guaranteed complete-set farm.
Inside, look for Fenris Hair on the cave’s hanging structures and associated breakable material. Look upward as well as at the floor, and inspect the drops after breaking an object. Fenris Claws are a different resource; collecting claws does not pay the armor’s hair cost.

The hood is the part with the extra gate
| First piece | Materials |
|---|---|
| Fenris Hood | 20 Hair, 2 Wolf Pelts, 1 Cultist Trophy |
| Fenris Coat | 20 Hair, 5 Wolf Pelts, 10 Leather Scraps |
| Fenris Leggings | 20 Hair, 5 Wolf Pelts, 10 Leather Scraps |
Ordinary Cultists supply the trophy needed for the hood. Geirrhafa’s named trophy and a Fenring trophy are not substitutes. If you have enough hair but cannot finish the set, inspect the trophy’s exact item name before spending another cave trip on the wrong enemy.

Choose a useful first piece
If Mountain travel is your immediate problem, the coat’s frost resistance is useful even before the outfit is complete. The movement bonuses belong to the individual pieces. The complete set’s +15 Fists and fire resistance require the hood, coat and leggings together.
At the first quality, each piece has 10 armor, for a total of 30. That is the trade: movement and the specific resistances instead of the armor rating of heavier alternatives. Wearing the full set does not turn every hit into fire damage or make low-health melee trades safe.
Verify the effect after changing equipment
Equip all three pieces and check the active effect for Fenris Blessing. If you replace the hood with a stronger helmet, the coat’s individual effect remains but the set bonus goes away. Account for that change before entering a fire-heavy fight.
Keep the initial 60-hair budget separate from upgrades. The Workbench’s next quality has its own material and station requirements; the late-game Forge of Potential is a separate progression system. Build the first useful pieces before assuming you must collect every future upgrade in one expedition.
