Valheim Frostner: Ymir Flesh, Silver and the First Craft
On this page
Craft Frostner at a level-3 Forge with 10 Ancient Bark, 30 Silver, 5 Ymir Flesh and 5 Freeze Glands. Buy the Ymir Flesh from Haldor after defeating The Elder; finding silver alone does not unlock the complete recipe.
Standard, unmodded equipment and Hildir quest rules; normal portal restrictions noted where relevant.
Buy the ingredient the Mountains cannot supply
Visit Haldor, the Black Forest trader, rather than Hildir. Ymir Flesh costs 120 Coins each: five pieces therefore cost 5 × 120 = 600 Coins. This is the purchase cost for a new Frostner, not a full-upgrade budget. The current reference lists The Elder as the stock gate; older advice that requires Bonemass for the merchant purchase is outdated.
Put every ingredient into your own inventory at least once. A friend owning a Frostner, or storing the ingredients somewhere in a shared base, is not the same as your character discovering the recipe materials.
Make one Mountain trip do two jobs
Bring cold protection, food and a repaired Iron Pickaxe for the silver route. Use the Wishbone to locate buried veins, mine the ore, then smelt it with coal. Frostner uses Silver bars, not unprocessed Silver Ore.
Collect Freeze Glands from Drakes while you explore. Do not spend them all on ammunition before you set aside the five for the weapon. Ancient Bark comes from the Swamp, so include that stop in your material plan instead of searching Mountain trees for it.

Check the first craft before buying upgrades
At the Forge, open the crafting list and inspect the station’s actual level. A Forge nearby without enough improvements does not satisfy level 3. Repair and arrange the station before carrying the full metal load home.
The ordinary quality-2, quality-3 and quality-4 upgrades add 15, 30 and 60 Silver respectively. Those are separate payments: 30 + 15 + 30 + 60 = 135 Silver including the initial weapon. They do not each require another five Ymir Flesh. Later Forge of Potential progression is outside this four-quality budget.

What changes when you use it
Frostner combines blunt, frost and spirit damage. An enemy that ignores one of those types will not take the entire displayed total as useful damage. Keep your current weapon until you have compared the enemy’s resistance, your stamina consumption and the room available for the weapon’s knockback.
Start with short primary attacks and leave enough stamina to defend. The secondary uppercut is a larger commitment; spending the last of your stamina on it is a poor trade when the next enemy is already closing. This is a control-oriented weapon choice, not a promise that every Mountain enemy becomes an easy fight.
