Equip the Wishbone dropped by Bonemass, then follow the faster green pulses and higher-pitched dings toward the buried object. In the Mountains, dig at the strongest signal and use an Iron Pickaxe for Silver Ore. Carrying the Wishbone without equipping it is not enough.

Standard, unmodded equipment and Hildir quest rules; normal portal restrictions noted where relevant.

Make sure the accessory is active

After Bonemass, pick up the Wishbone and equip it from your inventory. Look for its active effect. It shares the relevant equipment slot with Megingjord and Wisplight, so swapping to either can stop the detection you were expecting.

Bring a repaired Iron Pickaxe, a normal digging tool, cold protection, food and a recovery route. The Wishbone locates an object; it neither mines it nor provides protection from the Mountain climate.

Silver searching happens in the Mountains, where cold and roaming enemies still matter while you watch the signal. This official view is not a silver location marker.

Locate a point instead of chasing one pulse

  1. Walk until the green particles and sound begin.
  2. Continue a short distance and listen for a faster, higher-pitched signal.
  3. If it slows, turn back and approach from another direction.
  4. Compare the strongest point on both paths before digging.

This cross-check avoids excavating a long trench along the first route where the effect became noticeable. Stop and deal with nearby enemies before working on the hole, so the sound does not distract you from an approaching wolf.

The biome explains what you are finding

Where the signal isLikely object type documented for the Wishbone
MountainsBuried Silver Vein
SwampMuddy Scrap Pile
MeadowsBuried treasure

A ding in the Meadows is not proof of a Silver Vein. Once the detected object is opened or mined, it stops contributing that detection. If the pulses remain, check the surrounding ground for another object rather than assuming the accessory is broken.

Plan the heavy part before filling your bags

Silver Ore has to be smelted into Silver before weapon crafting. Under normal metal-transport rules, ordinary wooden portals cannot take the ore or bars; stone portals and changed world settings alter that situation. Check your world’s rule and prepare the downhill and sailing route before mining a large deposit.

If no signal appears, check the active accessory first, then try another Mountain area. The Wishbone cannot guarantee a vein under every hill. Surface silver can exist, but that is an alternative discovery, not a reason to label every silent patch a detection bug.
