Your selected Cryobell determines your Personal Bind even when the squad votes for someone else’s mission. Choose a personal penalty you can handle, then compare the squad’s mission choices. Since Hotfix 44.1.1, the host can start the voting timer; it also begins automatically once three players have voted.

Do these checks in order

  1. Read your candidate keys before selecting one. Identify the personal penalty separately from mission type, enemies and shared modifiers.
  2. Pick a Personal Bind your planned equipment can support. Do not select a severe personal penalty merely because you expect another mission to win.
  3. Discuss the shared options before casting early votes. The third player vote can begin the timer automatically.
  4. Have the host start the countdown after the discussion when appropriate. Recheck the final selection before the mission begins.

There are two decisions

Your key selection makes a local commitment; the vote makes a shared mission choice. For an illustrative group, a player who selects an energy-restricting Personal Bind does not regain a normal energy budget just because a teammate’s defense mission wins. Rework that player’s resource plan before launch, not after the first ability fails.

Use the newer timing rule

The original update describes a countdown starting once everyone selects a key. The October 8 hotfix changes that behavior to allow discussion. Following only the launch description can make a team rush unnecessarily. Conversely, an early third vote can begin the timer before the host manually starts it, so agree when to vote.

Avoid a vote nobody actually wants

The launch rules select a random key if nobody votes and use the host’s vote as the tie-breaker. Do not leave the selection to chance when the group has identified a workable option. Hotfix 44.1.1 also fixes a display mismatch after a no-vote random choice; update before diagnosing contradictory early footage as a current mechanic.

Resolve conflicts before entering

Ask each player to state their personal constraint and intended job. If someone’s available damage or survivability no longer fits the shared mission, revisit the plan while loadouts can still be edited. A favorable mission for five players does not erase the sixth player’s Personal Bind.
