Chained Beasts Healing: Potions, Water & Afflictions
On this page
Read the affliction attached to each Healer potion before choosing it. Healing can add a condition that changes movement, vision or team behaviour. On Tutorial and Pleb, water heals a small amount in 1.0.2. Compare that option with your missing health, then plan around the exact effect and tier you accept.
Read the Healer card before taking a potion
At the Healer, start with your missing health and the next arena’s demands. Then read the condition on each offered potion. A strong heal can leave you unable to move or see as comfortably as before, and that cost follows you into the fight.
Inspect the effect text and tier together. A Roman numeral identifies the displayed level of the condition; the wording explains the action it interferes with. Compare it with the afflictions already on your character before confirming the drink.

Choose in the order you actually play. A fighter who retrieves thrown weapons needs dependable movement and a clear view of the floor. A player anchoring the chain needs to see teammates and incoming attacks. Decide whose job must change before the group leaves the Healer.
- Read current health and existing afflictions.
- Compare the offered potion’s effect with your weapon and role.
- Tell teammates about any camera, movement or friendly-attack effect.
- After drinking, check the resulting condition before entering the arena.
Plan around vision and movement effects
Double Vision adds a second image when you take a hit. In the gameplay example below, overlapping fighters make it harder to read which body and chain position to follow. Leave more space around pillars and use your character marker to keep track of the actual route.
When the effect activates, move toward the open lane you identified before contact. Chasing a loose sword through overlapping silhouettes can pull your teammate into the same crowd. Let the partner with clearer vision call the direction until you can read the fight again.

Intoxication changes walking control. Test a short movement in open space once you are back in the arena, then give walls and traps a wider margin. In co-op, tell your partner before they try to hold a precise chain position for a full-circle Squeeze Attack.

Stamina-related conditions need their own check. Update 1.0.2 corrected Missing Lung so that it prevents stamina regeneration while moving. If that is on your character, use a safe pause in an open lane to recover instead of continuously running around the arena and waiting for the bar to refill.
Match that pause to enemy position. Move out of an announced attack first, then stop where the next approach is visible. Against Goliath’s leap, recovering inside a marked landing area exchanges one resource problem for immediate damage.
Tell the team about Annoying, Impulsive and Infatuated
Some afflictions change how the whole party operates. Annoying can cause nearby allies to attack you involuntarily. Keep more room between characters when collecting equipment or circling an enemy, and warn the group before everyone crowds into the same corner.
Impulsive locks in a new skill every second level and forces an item purchase at each shop. Read the remaining coin total before the Merchant visit and let the team know that your purchase may be compulsory. Save flexible spending for another player when the run needs a particular piece of equipment.
Infatuated changes camera behaviour around a particular ally and adds damage while that ally is looking at you. Inspect the tier text: the displayed first tier pulls the camera toward the ally, while the highest pictured tier follows them. Keep that teammate’s position predictable when you need to watch an incoming charge.

| Condition | What the party should change |
|---|---|
| Annoying | Leave room between allies when gathering around a target. |
| Impulsive | Plan shop spending and skill decisions around forced commitments. |
| Infatuated | Keep the relevant ally visible and announce major changes of direction. |
| Movement trouble | Let a steadier player handle long runs for equipment. |
Revisit these roles after the Trainer. A new injury can change which player is best able to anchor, circle or retrieve a weapon. Make the adjustment at camp while everyone has time to read their cards.
Compare water, Medicine and the Surgeon
Water now provides a small heal on Tutorial and Pleb in the public 1.0.2 update. Check your difficulty before using that change to plan a run. The patch does not give a fixed healing amount, so use the health shown in your own session when comparing it with a potion.
At the Merchant, inspect Medicine if it is offered. The pictured shop card heals the party, making it a shared purchase worth discussing before someone spends the remaining coins elsewhere. Read the current card’s amount and cost; shop examples show one offer, while your run determines the available stock.

The Surgeon appears between acts and offers ways to manage afflictions or take body modifications for new skills. Read the procedure’s full trade-off before agreeing. Carry your current injury list into that visit so that you can identify the condition most responsible for missed dodges, lost weapons or camera trouble.
For a group purchase, decide who benefits and what is left for the next visit. Healing everyone may be valuable before a difficult stage, while an equipment purchase may solve the threat that caused the damage. Use the current offers to make that choice rather than assuming a particular item will appear later.
Keep achievement goals separate from routine recovery
Ultra Hydrated requires winning a run while only drinking water. Medical Marvel requires a win with afflictions totalling at least 20 skulls. Those goals change your recovery choices from the start, so agree on the target before a player commits to a potion.
During an ordinary clear, take the option that leaves you able to perform the next fight’s essential actions. Before the Rhino encounter, review movement and camera effects together. A player who cannot see the mount’s approach should let a teammate call its direction and keep the chain clear of that route.
After each arena, name the action that caused the last avoidable hit. If it was a blurred weapon pickup, a forced turn or a teammate pulled across a hazard, use that observation when reading the next Healer card. You will make a more useful choice than simply selecting the largest-looking potion.
