Pudge cannot turn off Rot: silence and self-damage explained
On this page
If Pudge is silenced while Rot is active, he cannot deactivate it. Valve also states that Rot’s self-damage is non-lethal; an enemy can still finish the low-health Pudge.

Repeatedly pressing the toggle does not solve a silence restriction. First identify whether the control is blocked, then reduce the danger around the health you are losing.
What to do, in order
- Confirm Rot is active and check for silence rather than repeatedly pressing the same toggle.
- If silenced, recognise that the inability to switch it off is an explicit interaction, not necessarily a broken key binding.
- Reduce incoming enemy damage while the restriction remains. Non-lethal self-damage does not protect you from an enemy attack.
- Once the restriction ends, turn Rot off if you no longer need it and confirm the cloud stops.
- If no silence exists, inspect the configured ability key and current selection before changing settings; make sure you are commanding Pudge.
Match the symptom to the cause
I reached very low health
The self-damage is non-lethal, but it can leave you vulnerable. It does not create general damage immunity.
I used Rot during another channel
Valve notes that using Rot does not interrupt channeling. Do not apply a generic “every button cancels every channel” rule here.
The enemy was invisible but took damage
The official notes say Rot hits invisible units. Damage in the cloud is not the same as revealing that unit for targeted attacks.

Apply it to one concrete situation
An active Rot plus silence plus incoming enemy attacks is a different situation from Rot alone. You cannot solve the first case by relying on the self-damage floor: the enemy damage is an additional threat that can still kill you.
Current base tooltip values
Values below are the unmodified fields in Valve’s dated English ability data. Slash-separated entries are listed level values, not a recommended skill build. Read the field label: damage, range, duration and percentages have different meanings. Upgrades and modifiers can change your client’s values.
| Tooltip field | Listed base value(s) |
|---|---|
| Mana cost | 0 |
| Cooldown (seconds) | 0 |
| RADIUS | 250 |
| MOVE SLOW | -14 / -20 / -26 / -32% |
| DAMAGE | 30 / 60 / 90 / 120 |
Limits that matter
Scepter changes radius, damage and health-restoration reduction. This page explains the base toggle restriction, not a universal counter to every silence or a current item-build recommendation.

Can I deny myself with Rot self-damage?
The current official note says the self-damage is non-lethal. Do not use an old self-deny guide as a current instruction.
Does Rot hitting invisibility give True Sight?
The note establishes damage against invisible units, not a True Sight effect. Those are different mechanics.
