The Bait Maker consumes a fish to produce 5–10 pieces of that fish’s targeted bait. It improves targeting, but does not bypass the target’s normal location, season, weather and time requirements. Establish a valid fishing window before sacrificing a valuable catch.

One input fish produces five to ten targeted bait, conditional on a valid target-fishing window

Build and run one small batch

  1. Reach Fishing level 6 to unlock the Bait Maker recipe.
  2. Craft it with three Iron Bars, three Coral and one Sea Urchin.
  3. Reserve a fish you can afford to consume. Keep any irreplaceable or needed quest catch separate.
  4. Insert the fish and collect its named bait when the clock reaches the next 10-minute interval.
  5. Attach that bait to a compatible rod and fish in the target’s valid window.

Seaweed, algae and jelly are catchable objects, but cannot be put into this machine as fish. If the item will not load, confirm its type before assuming you need another machine.

What the cost comparison should include

The input fish could have been sold, kept or processed. Let its alternative value be V, and the actual number of bait produced be N. The sacrificed fish alone represents V ÷ N per bait, before the machine materials or your time.

For an illustrative fish worth 200g, five bait allocate 40g of that alternative value to each bait; ten allocate 20g. Those numbers are a cost allocation, not a purchase price or a prediction of the next batch. Do not assume each bait yields an extra target fish.

For income, compare the session’s additional value with the sacrificed fish and other costs. If you would have smoked the input profitably, its plain raw sale is not necessarily the best alternative for that comparison. Use the smoker margin checks first.

If you mostly catch trash or other fish

Start with a small batch while a valid window remains. If that window is nearly over, preserving the input fish can be more useful than creating bait you cannot use immediately. Never consume a one-time catch on the assumption that its bait guarantees another copy.
