Bait will not attach? Check the rod before changing controls

Open your inventory, pick up the bait, then right-click a Fiberglass Rod or better. The Bamboo Pole and Training Rod cannot hold bait. A Fiberglass Rod accepts bait but cannot hold a bobber or other tackle.

The Anime Athlete — inventory bait attachment from 1:59, May 20, 2023. Original creator gameplay, hosted by YouTube. This footage illustrates the controls; the written choices and examples below are independently explained. If the player does not load, open the original video.

Attach the bait on PC

  1. Open the inventory so you can see both the rod and the bait stack.
  2. Read the rod’s name. A starter Bamboo Pole is not a Fiberglass Rod.
  3. Left-click the bait to pick up the stack, then right-click the compatible rod.
  4. Inspect the rod’s attached bait rather than looking for a new tool in the hotbar.
  5. Try a cast after confirming the attachment. Merely carrying bait beside the rod is not the same as equipping it.

If clicking only exchanges the positions of the two inventory items, check the second click: it should be the attachment action on the rod. A normal inventory move is not an attachment. These are keyboard-and-mouse steps; the mobile interface uses a drag-and-drop interaction instead.

Buy the upgrade that solves the actual problem

Swipe sideways on a narrow screen to compare all columns.

RodAttachmentsOrdinary acquisition
Bamboo / TrainingNo bait or tackleUseful starting tools, not attachment-capable rods
FiberglassBait; no tackleWilly, Fishing level 2, 1,800g
IridiumBait and one tackleWilly, Fishing level 6, 7,500g
Advanced IridiumBait and two tacklesClaim Fishing Mastery; additional rods cost 25,000g afterward

If your only goal is using ordinary bait, you do not need to wait for the Iridium Rod. If the item that refuses to attach is a Trap Bobber, upgrading to Fiberglass will not solve it: that is tackle, which needs an Iridium or Advanced Iridium Rod.

After it worked, why did the benefit disappear?

Bait is consumed during fishing, so inspect the remaining stack. A notification appears when the final piece is used. Tackle has its own durability rather than acting as another stack of bait. Check both categories before assuming the rod is broken.

Use ordinary bait to establish that the controls work before testing a special bait. That keeps a compatibility problem separate from the conditions required for a particular fish.
