Icebind side objectives are optional until activated, but failing one fails the mission. A waypoint alone does not commit the squad: use the Start prompt, then satisfy the nearby-player requirement. Do not activate a bonus objective until the team can afford the risk.

Do these checks in order

  1. Finish the immediate recovery and defense jobs before activating the optional prompt. Seeing a purple waypoint is not a requirement to start it immediately.
  2. Identify the task and gather the number of nearby players shown by the objective. Do not invent one universal player threshold for every task.
  3. Agree who will perform the interaction and who will protect that work. Confirm readiness, then use Start.
  4. Track the side objective until completion. An activated side objective can hold normal extraction; leaving it unresolved is not the same as ignoring an unstarted waypoint.

Value the guaranteed completion first

The mission already offers its completion reward. A bonus key is valuable only if the team can finish the added task. If the group is short on reliable survivors or cannot explain the objective, skipping it can protect an otherwise successful run. This is a risk decision, not a claim that every group should always skip bonuses.

Do not follow the old Cryo Core throw instruction

Hotfix 44.1.1 removes the ability to throw the Cryo Core because it caused function loss. The same hotfix addresses invulnerability cases negating its health damage. A plan built around either early behavior is unreliable. Check the current interaction and arrange a survivable handling plan rather than repeating the removed input.

Separate completion flow from a migration bug

Hotfix 44.1.2 fixes cases where returning players after host migration did not reach the treasure room while extraction was waiting on a side objective. It also fixes a Mars Excavation/Cryothermia case. If that sequence matches your failure, record mission type, final side objective and migration history; do not label the problem as an ordinary reward roll.

Make the next attempt specific

After a failure, identify whether the task itself failed, too few players were ready, or transition to the treasure room broke. Those observations call for different changes. Preserve the main completion plan before adding another optional task, and do not promise that three bonus objectives are free rewards.
