The 1.0 collection feature targets scattered nearby loot: hold the interaction input, or enable the automatic collection setting. It excludes container loot, defeated-enemy loot and special quest items.

Reviewed October 17, 2026 · 1.0 release and Hotfix 1.0.0.2 source review

The key is classifying the object before diagnosing a failed pickup. A bag or container that remains closed is not the same interaction as scattered resources on the ground. Treating every object as eligible makes a working feature look broken.

Which loot should the setting collect?

Object you are trying to collectIncluded in nearby collection? What to do
Scattered ordinary lootYesUse hold-to-collect, or the automatic option in gameplay settings.
Contents of a chest or other containerNoOpen and loot the container separately.
Loot from a defeated enemyNoUse the enemy’s normal loot interaction.
Special quest-related itemNoComplete its specific interaction; auto collection is not a quest shortcut.

Two collection modes, the same exclusions

Holding the interaction button is the on-demand mode: choose when to gather nearby scattered loot. The gameplay setting makes that collection continuous without holding the button. Switching modes does not extend the feature to chests, enemies or quest objects.

For example, an item on the ground being collected while an enemy’s loot remains is consistent with the documented rules. Check an eligible scattered item before treating that difference as a broken setting.

What to do, in order

  1. Choose a clearly scattered ordinary item as the first check, rather than a chest, corpse or quest reward.
  2. Use the interaction input your current controls display, or review the automatic collection option in gameplay settings. This guide does not invent a keyboard binding for every device.
  3. Compare another object from the excluded categories separately. Use its ordinary interaction instead of waiting for auto collection to take it.
  4. If a qualifying item remains, note its identity, the selected collection mode and what happened. Keep the example specific so the report distinguishes an exception from a failure.

Match the situation to the right check

A chest still needs opening

Containers are excluded from this feature. Do not turn on more pickup options expecting them to open the chest.

A defeated enemy still has loot

The feature’s scope does not include defeated-enemy loot. That alone is not evidence that the setting failed.

Conditions and limits

The announcement describes a larger collection radius but does not supply a numeric distance here. No made-up range or pickup-speed comparison is used.

Hotfix 1.0.0.2 provides the later migration, world-settings and localization corrections discussed where relevant. The ordering and diagnostic comparisons are independent editorial guidance.
