Preview equally spaced decoration centres around an ellipse. Enter loop dimensions, decoration count and diameter to see approximate spacing, coordinates and overlap warnings. This flat design aid does not reproduce three-dimensional cloth or game trim behaviour.

Design a loop

Use one common unit. These are your design inputs. Diameter 0 shows centre markers only. The model uses circular decorations and a closed loop.

Equal distance is different from equal angle

On a circle, equal angle steps also produce equal arc spacing. On a stretched ellipse, the same angle steps generally do not travel equal distances along the curve. This simulator distributes points by cumulative distance along a sampled ellipse instead of simply dividing a full turn into equal angles.

Read spacing and overlap correctly

Arc spacing is approximate loop length divided by decoration count. It is distance along the curve, not the straight distance between centres. The coordinate table uses the ellipse centre as the origin; the first point is rightmost. Positive y runs downward in the diagram.

The overlap check compares every pair of centres with the circular diameter. Minimum edge clearance = smallest centre distance − diameter. A negative value means at least two circular decorations overlap in this model. On a narrow ellipse, the closest pair can lie on opposite sides, so checking only neighbours could miss collisions.

For an invented circular example with width and height both 100, length approaches 100π, about 314.159. With ten decorations, arc spacing is about 31.416. Neighbouring centres are about 30.902 apart. A diameter of 32 therefore gives an overlap warning even though arc spacing looks close to that diameter.

Compare designs one change at a time

Keep width and height fixed while changing count, then compare the result. If decorations overlap, try a smaller diameter or fewer pieces. Save a diagram before changing the loop shape so that you retain a reference.

This model cannot predict clipping on cloth, material stretch, inventory consumption, customer scores or attachment behaviour. An overlap-free diagram is a geometric result only. Use actual game observations to judge a specific design.

Calculation and export

The ellipse is approximated by 8,192 short segments. Cumulative lengths locate each decoration by interpolation. This numerical method is our implementation; perimeter and positions are approximate, particularly for extreme aspect ratios. It is not an exact symbolic perimeter formula.

Download SVG saves the original diagram; Print opens your browser’s print dialog for the diagram and table. No game characters, logos or screenshots are used. For the interface, read our trim and camera guide. For cutting plans, open the fabric simulator.
